Mrs. Beasley's

I deserve some sort of reward for sleuthing this one out for all of you cupcake enthusiasts. I have finally found a bakery that ships frosted cupcakes!

Yes, I’m a genius, I know. ;-)

You’d think this would be a simple proposition: You like cupcakes. You see some
frosted ones that you’d like to inhale. You order. They’re shipped to you. BUT NO!
Not even Sprinkles cupcakes will ship!

Introducing Mrs. Beasley’s Shippable Cupcakes!

Birthday cupcakes

Per the Mrs. Beasley’s site:
“Each Beasley shippable cupcake is handmade, weighs approximately 4.5 ounces, and has ½ inch of frosting evenly distributed on the cupcake. Each Beasley shippable cupcake is topped with a special goody or ornament.

The Beasley shippable cupcakes are available in special 6 or 12 packs and in a variety of seasonal and themed boxes and towers. They are packed in dry ice so that the frosting arrives cold and firm. The cupcakes should be refrigerated upon receipt and brought to room temperature for consumption. For a special treat, place the cupcake in the microwave for 5-7 seconds and you’ll have a restaurant quality dessert.

Please note that this product is shipped with dry ice and therefore special shipping rules apply. Due to the hot weather, Overnight Shipping is only available. Overnight shipping can be done anytime Monday through Thursday. Please see our disclaimer for more details. Cupcakes cannot be shipped to P.O. Boxes.”

But it’s THESE unshippable mamma-jammas that I want!

Non-shipped cupcakes

Sorry Strawberry Colossal cupcake with bits of strawberry, perhaps in another lifetime…

Colossal cupcake

Some of you might think I’m being facetious, but this was a REAL problem for a lot of us. The answer to the age-old question of, “Who ships cupcakes?” has been found, right here, on my wonderful blog. I told you I’m a wealth of information!

In other cupcake news…
Many of you cupcake addicts already know about CUP-A-CAKE, the revolutionary plastic cupcake shipping device. From reading various reviews online, CUP-A-CAKE actually works without smooshing the cupcakes’ frosting. Your cupcakes arrive intact!

But you can’t withhold vital information such as this. E-mail this article to all of your friends! :-D

I was pleased to discover an excellent African restaurant that’s located smack dab in Middle America. This is a good thing. The U.S. needs more of these!

Well, I don’t know if Milwaukee, Wisconsin is technically considered “Middle America,” but it is in my mind! ;-)

Today I was scouring the Internet for a good jollof rice recipe, and I happened upon African Hut, a popular Milwaukee dining establishment.

Let’s start with their Ugandan samosas!
Ugandan samosas
A real treat from Uganda! These samosas consist of minced turkey with vegetables in a unique blend of East African spices. Wrapped in a triangular shell and fried until golden brown.

Whether you call an exotic meat pie a samosa, a sambusa, an empanada, a pastelillo, or a Jamaican beef patty (same difference, folks!), just don’t call me late for dinner!

We can’t forget the Zanzi fries!
Zanzi fries
Cut sweet yams are lightly coated in spices and fried until golden brown. Served with Katanga sauce, which is prepared from a tomato base with pureed vegetables and African herbs and spices.

Kenyan Chicken Curry

AH Chicken curry
Chunks of boneless chicken with assorted vegetables are slow-cooked in a blend of African spices and a lively East African curry. (Not spicy)

Fried plantains

AH Fried plantains
Plantains are the biggest of all bananas and are a major staple in tropical Africa.
These are sliced and fried golden brown, then served with Katanga sauce.

I love jollof rice!
AH Jollof rice
Jollof rice is a centuries-old dish that dates back to the Mali Empire. Extra-fancy long-grain rice is cooked in a tomato base with a unique blends of spices, vegetables, and boneless chicken.

Fufu is good, too!
AH Fufu
Fufu (on the right) is consumed in most African countries south of the Sahara. Fufu is a firm, steamed dumpling made from grains and mashed African yams, and served with your choice of stews.

Wash it all down with imported tropical African drinks!

Moringue
From Moroccan mint tea to ginger beer and imported pineapple drinks and
“kola” champagne, African Hut has the cure for what thirsts ya!

NOT a banana split!
AH Mindy
A “Mindinmindin” (pronounced Mindy-Mindy) is an African Hut creation!
Juicy, tender apples are baked in our special molasses, cooked with tropical liqueurs and secret spices, and are then served over French vanilla ice cream with bananas and whipped cream.

What you’ve just seen is only a fraction of African Hut’s menu! Kilimanjaro pepper soup, Ghana palm butter stew, Senegalese beef Yassa, African sweet potato pie,
cassava pudding pie and plenty more are yours for the asking.

African Hut even sells quality African dinnerware!

Pass the pepper, please!

How adorable!

All that’s missing from this restaurant equation is ME! :-D

Seafood Paella

I would have to say that my ultimate favorite cuisine is Caribbean food. I don’t care if it comes from Trinidad, Cuba, or Jamaica - FEED ME.

Caribbean food is not only tasty, but it’s healthy. It’s the best of both worlds!

I am on a not-so-secret mission to get more Caribbean restaurants to open in Los Angeles. It’s crazy that we have a million sushi and Mexican places, but only like five or so decent Caribbean dining establishments in this city…in a tropical climate, at that!

I recently discovered this cool restaurant, Bahama Breeze, but their closest location to me is in freakin’ Vegas. Nevada?! Now how is that gonna help me?

Bahama Breeze boasts on its web site its 32 locations, so do a search on their site for a location nearest you. Hopefully you’ll have more luck than me. :-(

Maybe you’ll have the pleasure of savoring their Coconut Shrimp:

Coconut Shrimp

OK, so maybe their West Indies ribs and fries aren’t exactly health food,
but still…

Ribs

All this talk about Bahama Breeze holdin’ out on me with their food is too much for me to bear. SOMEONE BETTER HAND ME A DRINK!

…or pass me a dessert or somethin’!

Chocolate Island

Oh well, I guess a trip to Vegas wouldn’t be so bad. ;-)
